About this game

Oceania is the region of Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific islands, and it has 14 sovereign countries. Geographers usually split the islands into three groups with Greek-rooted names: Melanesia means black islands, Micronesia means small islands, and Polynesia means many islands. Australia and New Zealand are often grouped together as Australasia. A lot of famous Pacific places are not independent, which is why they don't appear here: Hawaii is a US state, Guam and American Samoa are US territories, and Tahiti and New Caledonia belong to France. The Cook Islands and Niue govern themselves but are in free association with New Zealand, so they are not counted either.

The two big countries in the south come easily, so spend your time on the islands. Melanesia sits just northeast of Australia and holds the larger, more mountainous island nations. Micronesia lies farther north, close to the equator, and is made up mostly of small islands and coral atolls, including some of the least populous countries on Earth. Polynesia forms a huge triangle in the central and southern Pacific. Two of the 14 have Islands in their names, and one shares its name with the whole region it sits in, so watch for those. The tiniest countries are the ones players most often forget, so go back over the map once more before time is up.
