The European Union has 27 member countries, and this name all 27 EU countries challenge gives you six minutes to type every one. Big players like France, Germany and Italy come right away, but small states and newer Eastern members trip up a lot of players. Alternative names such as Holland and the Czech Republic are accepted, so the only real test is remembering who's in and who isn't.

About this game

The European Union grew out of a six-country partnership founded in the 1950s by Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and West Germany. It expanded in waves, with the biggest jump in 2004, when ten countries joined at once, mostly from Central and Eastern Europe. Croatia became the newest member in 2013. The United Kingdom left in 2020, which brought the total from 28 down to the current 27. Watch out for well-known European countries that have never been members, including Norway, Switzerland and Iceland.

Sweep the map in sections. Start with the founders in the west, then go north to the Nordic and Baltic members, south along the Mediterranean, and finish in Central and Eastern Europe, where most people lose track. Pairs help: there are three Baltic states, two island nations in the Mediterranean, and two neighbors whose names are easy to mix up, Slovakia and Slovenia. Of the five Nordic countries, three are members and two are not. Don't forget the tiny ones, either: the smallest member is an island nation south of Sicily.
