Name All the Countries in Africa

Africa has 54 countries, and this name all the countries in Africa challenge gives you twelve minutes to type every one. Big names like Egypt, Nigeria and South Africa come fast, but the small coastal states and island nations are where most players run dry. Older names such as Ivory Coast, Swaziland and Cape Verde are accepted, so focus on remembering rather than spelling.

About this game

Africa has 54 UN member states, more than any other continent. The newest is South Sudan, which became independent in 2011. Several countries have changed names in recent decades: Swaziland became Eswatini in 2018, Cape Verde asked to be called Cabo Verde in 2013, and Zaire became the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 1997. There are two Congos side by side, so remember to name both the Republic of the Congo and its much larger neighbor, the DRC.

Work region by region. North Africa is a short list along the Mediterranean, but West Africa packs in 16 countries, many of them small strips running inland from the coast, so walk the shoreline from Mauritania to Nigeria. Then do Central, East and Southern Africa, and finish with the island nations offshore: Cabo Verde, São Tomé and Príncipe, Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius and Seychelles. Three countries share the word Guinea, so count them off together: Guinea, Guinea-Bissau and Equatorial Guinea.
