Name All of Canada's Provinces and Territories

Canada is America's next-door neighbor, but can you name all of its provinces and territories? This Canadian provinces quiz gives you three minutes to type all 13: ten provinces and three northern territories. Standard abbreviations like BC, PEI and NWT count, and so does Newfoundland on its own. Most players remember the big western provinces fast, then get stuck on the Atlantic coast or the far north.

About this game

Canada is split into 10 provinces and 3 territories. The provinces get their powers directly from the Constitution, while the territories are governed under federal law, which is the main difference between the two. The newest is Nunavut, carved out of the Northwest Territories in 1999 as a homeland for the Inuit. Newfoundland and Labrador was the last province to join, in 1949, and its official name only added Labrador in 2001.

The easiest way to get all 13 is to cross the map from west to east, the way you might drive it. Start on the Pacific, cross the Rockies, sweep through the three Prairie Provinces, then the two giant central provinces, and finish with the four Atlantic Provinces, three of which are often called the Maritimes. Then jump north for the territories, which sit side by side across the far north. Players most often miss one of the small Atlantic provinces or forget that there are three territories, not two.
