This Bible trivia quiz covers ten well-known people, places and events from the Old and New Testaments, from the first chapters of Genesis to the Gospels. Every answer comes straight from the stories themselves, with no theology debates, so it suits Sunday school alumni, book club regulars and anyone who grew up hearing these stories at home or in church.

Finding your way around the Bible

The Bible is less a single book than a library. Its many writings were composed over many centuries by different authors, mostly in Hebrew for the Old Testament and in Greek for the New Testament, with a few passages in Aramaic. That range is why it holds family sagas, royal chronicles, poetry, letters and short biographies side by side. Different Christian traditions even count the books a little differently, though the best-known stories appear in every version.

The chapter and verse numbers that make a reference so easy to look up were added long after the texts were written, to help readers find a passage quickly. For quiz purposes, it helps to think in eras: the early family stories and the escape from Egypt, the judges and kings, the prophets, and then the life of Jesus and his first followers. If you can place a person in the right era, you can usually rule out at least two wrong answers.

This quiz sticks to names and events stated plainly in the text, using the familiar English spellings found in most American translations. Many of these stories have been retold in art, film and everyday speech for centuries, so even casual readers often know more than they expect.
